A Little About Mediation

Mediation is a voluntary process in which an impartial third party seeks to help people involved in a dispute to explore their differences, with the view to increase understanding, and to see where positive progress can be made and terms of agreement can be reached between them.

A mediator is generally requested when organisations or individuals are unable to find a solution on their own, or when communication between parties has become very difficult.

The mediation process works best when:

  • Ongoing relationships are important
  • The power imbalance between the disputants is not too great
  • People are willing to give the process a try
  • The issues are resolvable by the parties involved
  • Those involved want to have some control of the outcome
  • Speed is relevant for the resolution
  • There are quite specific complaints and issues
  • Confidentiality is a key requirement in the resolution

Kaye has mediated for both personal and team disputes. Her other qualifications as a senior accredited counsellor with the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy), and coach (affiliate member with the Association of Coaching) enable her to be sensitive and insightful in her approach as a mediator.

Being a good communicator is absolutely essential to facilitating the mediation process. Kaye’s background through her various trainings ensure her communication skills are of a very high standard.

Being a sole trader gives Kaye the flexibility to be able to tailor her mediation approach to fit in with the needs of those concerned, and also enables her to keep her fees at a very competitive rate.

Kaye can also offer mediation skills training to organisations to equip staff to support each other in this process if that is the preferred option.
